Gary is a lawyer and arbiter that has served as a judge and mediator. He practiced law in Western North Carolina from 1976 to 1986 in private practice. He served as District Court Judge in Buncombe County from 1986 to 2011 and was the Chief District Court Judge from 2002 until his retirement. Gary served as a mediator from 2011 to 2020 and was certified as a Superior Court and Family Financial Mediator by the NC Dispute Resolution Commission. He is a former member and Chair of the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. Gary has retired from the practice of law, the bench, and his private mediation practice. However, he still arbitrates cases individually or in collaboration with Marvin and/or Becky serving on two- or three-member arbitration panels.
